-
- Well, I finally got my Tech license in the mail (10 weeks, 4 days): KE6EQZ
- I'm still working on the code and hope to pick up the CSCE for Tech+
- privs soon. What I'm looking for now are opinions (pro and cons) on a
- 2m/70cm HT dual-bander. Desired features include:
-
- HT (I don't want to be bound to the house or the car)
- Under $500 (This is my tax refund)
- Small size (but will trade off for features)
- Rugged (not necessarily indestructible, but at least not "fragile").
- No intermod.
- CTCSS en/decode.
- DTMF en/decode.
- Ability to run on AA cells. (not just packs)
- Decent battery life.
- Some base-station potential (ant jack, & more wattage output with ext. pwr sup)
-
- What is not important:
- Wide band Rx. (I have a scanner for this)
- Out of band Tx capability.
- Brand specific message sending/paging stuff.
-
- As I'm new to amateur radio, I may have neglected important features, or be
- asking for mutually exclusive features (dual-bander vs. no intermod). Is
- it worth it to get separate 2m and 70cm HTs? Do 2m/1.25m or 1.25m/70cm
- dual bander HTs exist? Is a 2m/1.25m/70cm tri-bander a pipe dream? Your
- comments are appreciated.

- Hi,
-
- The subject almost says it all. Is a modification required for 9600 bps
- packet radio with the Alinco DR-1200T and if so, which one ?
-
- And by the way, if you have any recommendation for a 2m rig for 9600 bps
- packet, I would be grateful.

- AS>I heard of the Kiwa filters for the 2010 too.

-
- AS> Can someone direct me to any sites where I can find out what kinds

-
- Kiwa sells filters for the 2010 and can be reached at 1-800-398-1146.
- The prices is 14 and 40 dollars for the wideband and narrowband mods,
- respectively. The filters have zero insertion loss so overall signal
- strength is increased since the stock filters do insert loss.

- Good thing you already have your license. I'd hate to think some AH would
- go out of their way to keep you off the air since you offered to help extend
- the coverage on a radio. But of course, you meant RECEVIE only right?

- I have the Kenwood TH-22AT. It is smaller than the TH-28A and puts out 3
- watts on the regular battery compared to the Yaesu FT-11R which only does
- 1.5 watts. The Kenwood does not have wide band receive, but what is the
- chance that your wife will listen to airplanes????
-
- Bottom line, I really like the TH-22AT.

- You might try the FT-415 technique: Hit the Fm key (to toggle on the
- F) and then hit the light.
